Well, look at what we have here?! Jurnee Smollett-Bell looking like new money on the March issue of Ebony magazine. For Women’s History month, the publication is celebrating 20 women who have blazed trails in various industries.
To that point, in the issue, Smollett-Bell, who we’ll see in the new season of “Underground,” speaks about activism and colorism in Hollywood.
“There are obstacles and challenges that my dark-skinned sisters face that I will never know. How they are perceived when they walk in a room of strangers is something I will never truly know. I would be ignorant to say colorism doesn’t exist, it’s gross and disgusting.”
Elsewhere in the issue, U.S. Senator Kamala Harris, journalist Soledad O’ Brien, ESPN’s Jemele Hill and White House Champion of Change awardee Kathryn Finney are profiled among the 20 trailblazers.
There’s a piece on Culinary Queens, the women who are “reclaiming the game for the sisters.”
And on the not so nice, but absolutely necessary topic for Black women, there’s a piece called “A Silent War: The battle between Black women and fibroids.”
Ebony editior-in-chief and Senior Vice President Kyra Kyles, said in summation of the issue, “It is no exaggeration when we talk about Black Girl Magic. Black women truly hold our community together. It is an honor to be able to celebrate ‘us’ in this issue.”
