In fact, it was Bobby’s own project that halted the release of the New Edition biopic. (It was ten years in the making.) But according to a recent report from theJasmineBrand, we may see a movie about Bobby’s namesake before they finish his. Yes, a Bobbi Kristina biopic. According to the site, sources said that TV One would be the home for the project.
“TV One feels like they can tell her story in a way that will resonate with her fans. There’s so much about her life that some people didn’t know about—outside of the headlines. They think they can pull it off.”
Apparently, casting for the project has already begun. These same sources said musical artist, actress and former “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Demetria McKnney would take on the role of Whitney Houston. The source said, “Demetria has the voice and she’s an actress.” And veteran actress Vivica Fox would play Bobbi Kristina’s aunt, Pat Houston. As you know, Pat worked closely with Houston, up until the day of her death. Sources said production for the project is set to begin this month. No word on who will take on the lead role. Usually, I wouldn’t spend time discussing whether or not I feel a biopic would do well or is even a worthwhile endeavor. But this feels very different. The thing that made the New Edition biopic so well done was the fact that there was a wealth of information at their disposal. Where is the information on Bobbi Kristina’s life going to come from? Tragically, she lost her life not even two years ago. So the person who has the most accurate descriptions about the thoughts and feelings she was experiencing through key life moments, is not there. The woman who gave her life, the one with whom she seemed to share an extremely close relationship, passed three years before here. I can’t see her father wanting to participate in this project in any way, shape or form. Considering the fact that Pat and her family were so against the Lifetime project, I doubt they'll be much help. And I don’t know if the memories and recollections from her former boyfriend, fiancé, play-brother, Nick Gordon, can be trusted. It all seems ill fated. What do you think? Veronica Wells is the culture editor at MadameNoire.com.
