Oh what a privilege it is to not have to engage in conversations about privilege because you are so privileged. That’s the position Caitlyn Jenner seemingly took during one part of Katy Perry’s live-streaming weekend this past Sunday to promote her new album, Witness.

Last night, Katy gathered various voices for a Dinner with Discourse which was live-streamed on YouTube, and Van Jones, Amanda Seales, Anna Navarro, Margaret Cho, and Caitlyn were a few of the individuals who had a seat at the table and something to say. Well mostly, all of them had something to say, except Caitlyn, whom Amanda says only spoke when she was urged to and also wasn’t listening, which she found insulting. After all, as she pointed out, “If this is a conversation about having conversations, then we have to be listening to each other.”

The actress then goes on to explain how her experience in this country has been vastly different from that of Caitlyn, who, ideally, as a trans woman should actually be better able to understand where she’s coming from as a double minority.

When Caitlyn repeats her prior declaration, “I believe in this country,” Amanda responds:

“You can say that in a way that I cannot because you’ve had a different experience, because this country is here for you. This country ain’t here for me in the same way, sis. It isn’t and you, as a trans person, have to also identify the fact that this country hasn’t been here for trans until like, maybe, 2 o’clock today.”

And not one lie was told.

Check out the interaction in the clip below. What do you think?
