While central Fresh Prince of Bel Air stars like Will Smith and Alfonso Ribeiro have said in the past that they don’t think it would be a good idea to do a reboot of the show, Taytana Ali told Us Weekly that she’s interested.
Speaking with the publication at the Step Up 14th Annual Inspiration Awards in Beverly Hills on Friday, Ali said that while she’d sign up for a reboot, she understands why her co-stars, specifically Smith, might want to avoid messing with what was a good thing.
“Some of us are [game]. I’m down,” the 38-year-old said. “But it was a really special time for those six years. I’m not sure if Will necessarily wants to touch it. It might just need to stay that gem. Honestly, knowing him, I think he might want to keep it as this just kind of precious moment. I don’t know how the characters would be now.”
She added, “People talk about it. I’d be into it!”
Despite the fact that the former castmates have come together on multiple occasions over the past few years (minus Janet Hubert who isn’t interested), it’s not something they’ve all agreed to do or agreed to pass on. Instead, when they’re together, they focus on talking about the present — Like how different Smith looks these days.
“We all still kind of look like ourselves, I think,” she said. “Will is just larger. He’s like a body builder because he’s doing all these action films. He’s probably changed the most.”
When asked if she’s ever shocked by just how much fame he’s accrued since the Fresh Prince days, she said it’s a surprise to no one.
“It’s not shocking because he had that personality,” Ali said. “He’s like Superman when he walks into a room.”
And that’s probably the biggest reason a reboot won’t happen. He’s too big to go back. As he said late last year when asked about a revamp possibility, Smith said, “I’m not doing it. If somebody wanted to, I would probably let them, but I have no intention.”
