Or, maybe not—maybe you didn’t even expect to get married. Whether you planned on tying the knot or not, you probably didn’t plan on being overweight for your big day. You probably didn’t plan on being overweight at all—life just has a way of doing that to people. But here you are, not exactly at your goal weight, and thinking about how you want those wedding pictures to be perfect. If you’re thinking about crash dieting before your big day, honestly, you’re better off asking your makeup artist to do some contouring, getting into some spanx and choosing a dress that highlights your best features and covers up the things you’re improving on. Here is why you shouldn’t crash diet before your wedding. [caption id="attachment_620355" align="alignleft" width="420"] Shutterstock[/caption]

You’re already under stress

Planning a wedding is already tremendously stressful when you’re not dieting. You cannot handle the stress of making sure you meal prep in addition to making it to all these meetings with caterers and florists.               [caption id="attachment_609049" align="alignleft" width="415"] Shutterstock[/caption]

You’re already cranky

You’re already cranky due to sleep deprivation and how expensive everything is. If you add a crash diet to that, you’ll be a nightmare to be around. Oh—and you kinda already are because you’re planning a wedding!             [caption id="attachment_709038" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

You and boo are already bickering

Planning a wedding puts enough stress on a couple without half of that couple crash dieting. Do you want to be six pounds thinner on the big day or do you want to get along with your fiancé during the days leading up to the big day?             [caption id="attachment_220081" align="alignleft" width="375"]"DJ at a party pf" shutterstock.com[/caption]

Think of all the events

Bridal showers, bachelorette parties, engagement parties…the side parties friends throw you who couldn’t make it to your bridal party. Are you really going to tell all those people you can’t eat the treats they so lovingly made you (or bought you)?                   [caption id="attachment_615111" align="alignleft" width="420"] Corbis[/caption]

And think of the dress fittings

Your tailor needs you to stay in mostly the same shape. Oh, and your wallet needs you to, too. Because guess what? Dress fittings are not free. If you lose a ton of weight and need to be re-fitted, that’s going to cost you.               [caption id="attachment_612519" align="alignleft" width="420"] Corbis[/caption]

You could over-do it

You may end up losing too much weight and having your dress falling off on the big day. Safety pins were not a part of this ensemble plan. Neither was having tiny boobies that don’t do that low-cut justice.               [caption id="attachment_624064" align="alignleft" width="420"] Shutterstock[/caption]

Or do it and not get the results you wanted

On the flip side, you could torture yourself and not lose the weight you wanted. And let’s be honest: if you don’t reach that goal weight, you’re going to feel all of that suffering was for nothing.           [caption id="attachment_701290" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock.com[/caption]

Your boo can’t stand to watch

It pains your partner to watch you just stare at his pizza while you push your lettuce around. And it kills him to watch you throw away the ice cream you love.             [caption id="attachment_612908" align="alignleft" width="500"] Credit: Shutterstock[/caption]

You can’t handle your booze

You will not be able to handle your booze on your wedding day. Let alone during your bachelorette! Even if you don’t throw up or pass out, you’ll still be so woozy you barely remember either of these important events.             [caption id="attachment_701334" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

You’re exhausted as it is

You’re already exhausted; you don’t need to add a calorie deficit to that. You need your strength right now to juggle work and wedding planning and a social life. And exercise!               [caption id="attachment_706468" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

You won’t look toned

If you crash diet, you’ll lose the lovely definition in your muscles. You may look slimmer, but you would have looked better with a little extra weight and some elegant definition in your arms.               [caption id="attachment_711846" align="alignleft" width="420"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

You’re missing out on the fun

All you’re thinking about during wedding planning is your weight. When you look back on these days, all you’ll remember is dieting. You’re missing out life’s precious moments.             [caption id="attachment_687835" align="alignleft" width="420"] Corbis[/caption]

It will throw off your hormones

Crash dieting can mess with your hormones. That means you’ll be a moody mess. Furthermore, it could mean that your period—which wasn’t meant to come on your honeymoon—will now show up just as you’re slipping into your bathing suit.           [caption id="attachment_617901" align="alignleft" width="500"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

You’ll look to other de-stressors

If comfort food usually acts as your de-stressor, you’ll end up looking to other things. Like binge shopping, drinking, obsessively redecorating your home…who knows? But you don’t want to find out.       [caption id="attachment_625897" align="alignleft" width="500"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

You’ll put it all back on immediately

You cannot sustain this diet forever. You’ll likely end up putting it all back on in the months after the wedding. But those are supposed to be some of your happiest days! And the weight will just ruin them for you.       [caption id="attachment_615832" align="alignleft" width="420"] Shutterstock[/caption]

You’ll feel sick when you eat your cake

Your stomach cannot handle much after you’ve been dieting. So the filet mignon, champagne, and cake at your wedding will likely leave you feeling pretty sick.               [caption id="attachment_626809" align="alignleft" width="500"] Image Source: Shutterstock[/caption]

It puts too much pressure on you

If you do not reach your perfect goal weight by the day of your wedding, then on that day, you’ll feel like you failed. That is not something you should be feeling on your wedding day.       [caption id="attachment_614710" align="alignleft" width="467"] Corbis Images[/caption]

You won’t recognize yourself in your photos

Because it’s the only time you’ll be that thin! You will not look like yourself in your wedding photos, which will make you a little sad when you look at them in the future.                 [caption id="attachment_696992" align="alignleft" width="420"] Corbis[/caption]

You’ll gorge on your honeymoon

So much for all the zip lining and hiking to waterfalls you had planned on the honeymoon. You’ll be too busy going nuts on that hotel buffet, and then feeling sick after.             [caption id="attachment_619222" align="alignleft" width="500"] Credit: Shutterstock[/caption]

The bride is already the most beautiful woman in the room

The bride is always the most beautiful woman in the room, no matter her size. No one will notice your weight on your big day. They’ll only notice how happy you look.
